Take My Advice, I’m Not Using It
Posted on Monday, April 4th, 2011
Getting fit and staying fit over 50 can be a struggle. It’s harder for women to stay in shape as we age, and it’s even harder if we spend time being a slug and ignoring our own advice.
Yes, that’s right. My advice is up for grabs. I’m not using it anyway, so you want it? Go ahead and take it.
Take My Advice, I’m Not Using It are actually the words of my friend over at www.HappySimple.com. Barb McMahon has a way with words. When I read her blog post about not taking her own advice, it hit a cord with me… and not a pleasant one. Oh, it wasn’t Barb’s fault. Her blog post was warm, touching, brilliant, and personal; all good blog things. (After you spend a minute with me here, be sure to stop by www.HappySimple.com and meet Barb.)
Like I said, it wasn’t Barb’s fault that her blog post made me squirm. It was my fault. I won’t bore you with the details, just keep this short and sweet.
You can’t sit around for six months and stay in shape.
Sad to say, but if I had kept moving instead of becoming a slug, I would be in great shape right now. But, better now than later… or never.
So, here I am in my workout clothes and will shortly head to Spinning Class with my daughter, Nicole Dean (pssst… Nicole, are you going to blog about this?). Before I had my Drop And Give Me 30 Fitness Challenge, Nicole had a Computer Butt Challenge for all of us who find our butts glued to a chair while we work at a computer all day.
I’m guessing it may be time again – time to take my own advice and get back on my bike, tie on my walking shoes, and get going.
Stay tuned… and please comment in the spot below and share how you get motivated to exercise, or re-motivated if you found yourself in the same slump as I was in. Maybe we can get each other up and off the couch. Thanks for reading!
p.s. Another GREAT exercise program I know works because I took my own advice and DID IT is the Fat Loss Quickie Fitness Program. With just a floor ball and a few weights, I got in great shape in only 10 minutes twice a day! This is a program that you can work into your day easily. I’m taking my own advice and starting back in with this simple to learn routine. I hope you will, too. Just click on here and see what Scott and Angie’s workout program can do for you.
p.p.s. Be sure to stop over and say Hello to Barb over at www.HappySimple.com. She always enjoys the company!

Oh my! I’m sitting here blushing and smiling… Thanks so much for your kind words, Patti!
Good luck with the Spinning! Now that our sidewalks are clearing and Spring is in the air, I’ll be heading back out for my daily walks. And I’ll thank you for the great advice as I go!

I’m glad you’re pleased, Barb. I do so love your blog… and your advice! 😉 I sure hope the good weather brings back all my good intentions! Thanks again for letting me share your great phrase.

I had to pop over here when I saw the title, Patti! I’m not taking any advice lately either – my own or anyone else’s! Ack! I was doing pretty well (had lost 10lbs again) but, then went home for a month to help my dad out and got pretty much OFF TRACK. I’m slowly working my way back there! You and Nicole and Scott and Angie are definitely great motivators for me!

Thanks for stopping by, Lisa. I did the same thing when I went to visit family for a month in my hometown. It’s been over 7 months now and I just fell into a rut and stayed there. But, last night I went to Spinning Class with Nicole and I definitely feel re-motivated. It was a lot of fun and my butt is killing me! So, stay tuned!
And thanks for the compliment to Nicole, Scott, Angie, and me, too. Sometimes that’s what it takes – a lot of voices saying “you can do it!” Good luck and keep up the good work.
