Homemade Convenience Foods – How To Enjoy Old Fashioned Healthy Foods Fast
Posted on Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Old fashioned cooking and fast foods may seem incompatible, but the two meet head-on in this incredible new cookbook by my friend Susanne Myers at HillbillyHousewife.com.
Nowadays, it seems like just about every meal is either a drive-thru, fast-food, or a meal-in-a-box event. People are busy – I get it.
But, for an old fashioned gal like me, it’s disheartening to see cars with hungry families sitting in line at the drive-thru. I want to pull up and hand them each a bowl of homemade soup or something! Poor dears…
Isn’t there a better way to eat fast?
For someone who likes to cook and eat old fashioned foods, I find the thought of stocking my cupboards with prepackaged foods rather distasteful ( pun intended.) Also, for someone who likes to eat healthy, and eat foods with ingredients I can pronounce, I also find many of the condiments and convenience foods rather scary. But, I also like to have food on hand that’s fast and easy to make, with all the sauces and goodies to go with them.
Okay. To the point. What if you could eat healthy AND fast?
That is precisely the question my friend Susanne Myers at HillbillyHousewife.com asked herself. Susanne’s an old fashioned cook who found herself feeding her family way too many fast-food meals. Like most Moms, Susanne is finding out just how hard it is to sit down to a home-cooked meal each night, especially as kids get older. Between school, sports, lessons, and homework, time is short and something’s gotta give. And, like most Moms, Susanne found a solution in fast-food.
However, Susanne decided to go beyond the typical fast-food solution for feeding her family. And that’s how her new resource and ebook Homemade Convenience Foods came about.
Susanne gathered over 200 recipes and put them together in a simple to follow cookbook. Here’s a quick peek at some of the recipes I know you’ll enjoy:
- Easy Baked Mac ‘n Cheese
- Freezer Egg Rolls
- Helpful Hamburger Dinner Mix
- Top-Of-The-Stove Stuffing Mix
- Refried Dried Beans Mix
- Lemony Herb Rice Mix
- Parlor Perfect Pizza Crust
- Crunchy Sweet Oat Granola
- Five Grain Cereal Blend
- Chocolate Almond Coffee Creamer
- Blended Cafe Latte Coffee Mix
- Cracklin’ Caramel Corn
- Happy Trail Mix
There are also recipes for pantry staples like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salad dressings, marinades, spice blends, baking mixes, chicken and fish coatings… the list goes on and on. And, this is all available for ONLY $10! That’s an incredible price for this great resource packed with more than 200 recipes!
And, last but not least, Susanne has also included 4 FREE bonuses when you buy her Homemade Convenience Foods ebook! Here’s what you’ll get:
- Homemade Bath and Body Products
- Homemade Household Cleaning Products
- A Year Of Snacks: from Christine at MenuPlanningCentral.com
- Memory Lane Meals – A Collection Of Sweet Treats: from yours truly, me, at RemarkableWrinklies.com
Yes, I liked Susanne’s ebook so much I gave her my own collection of recipes to give away to anyone who purchases Homemade Convenience Foods. How fun is that!

Hi Sybil,
I took a look at your website and found a lot of nice recipes for good old fashioned meatloaf with lots of new twists. The funniest was “Baby’s First Meatloaf” – made me laugh! I remember meatloaf was always a regular meal in homes back in the 50s. With our health conscious world now, the classic meatloaf has taken on a few new ingredients, like ground turkey, for instance. I think my readers will be pleased to see the variety of good recipes with easy to follow directions. It’s definitely worth a look. Thanks for sharing, Sybil.

Thanks, Troy. That’s what I love, too. It’s a comfort cooking like our elders did. It’s also a way to remember, and honor, our history.
