A History Making Vote
Posted on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008
I’m not really a political junkie. Really. I’m not. But… here I am glued to the tube, again, and writing about the election. If you are like me, of a “certain age”, you probably don’t recall another election quite like this one.
As you may have guessed, I voted early. I’m glad I did, because I live in a larger city now and there was a line. Also, I like just being able to breathe a sigh of relief. But voting early also took some of the excitement out of Election Day. In my little hometown, voting used to be kind of a social event with everyone going to vote after work, visiting with each other, then home to dinner.
We did run into one glitch this year. The address on our driver’s license didn’t match the address on our registration card. It was off by one number because we moved across the hall in our condo building last year. The people were very nice and just had us fill out a change of address and we were on our way. So, we were thankful that we didn’t wait until today. A little delay like that could have gotten us a few dirty looks, or worse.
Now, we just sit and wait. And watch… because I’m not going to bed until this is finally over. I want to see if, in my Dad’s words, “the best damn country in the world” knows how to get the vote out and move this country forward.
