A Writer Writes – Except When She Doesn’t

Posted on Sunday, October 14th, 2018

I know. This is about the place where I click off, too.

When someone starts telling me why she hasn’t been writing, my brain turns off, and I wander over somewhere else where it’s more interesting.

So if you click off and scroll elsewhere, I’ll understand.

Oh, you’re still here? Okay, then. Here’s the scoop.

I had three life-enhancing experiences recently. (I was going to say life-changing, but chose to offer less drama in the hopes you keep reading.)

The experiences were:

1) I went to a wellness retreat;
2) I disconnected our cable tv; and
3) I read a book about tidying.

What I learned was:

1) When God gives you a gift, use it;
2) Sleep is possible; and
3) I am burdened by possessions I do not love.

I will save the detail about what I learned from all three events for a later date. But, in a nutshell, it appears all three experiences have come together in some sort of cosmic collision in my life to lift what I called my ‘stuckness’ and might have become a full-blown depression.

All three events have created lifestyle changes which, I believe, will lead to more optimism in the future. And since optimism is the cornerstone for building a better life, things are looking up.

I will check back in as I explore what I have learned.

But, more importantly, I look forward to discussing with you what steps I take to put into action the things I have learned.

Stay tuned, if you please. I appreciate the time you took to read this far, and hope I can offer some insights into finding a path forward.

Until we meet again, I remain

Gratefully Yours,
Patti

    Oh Patti I think we are on similar paths. We listen to cable music channels and adore them. But no Cable News. We are eating better than we ever have thanks to Whole 30 that we were introduced to over a year ago. I am 2 dress sizes smaller and am feeling great despite one of those major birthdays coming up. My spiritual life is what keeps me anchored. And I find reading something spiritual along with another book for just fun makes my life so much more balanced. Keep on the path. Miss you !

    Thank you, Annie, for reading and commenting. It is so good to hear from you – especially hearing how well you are doing! My daughter and son-in-law are fans of the Whole 30 approach to eating well, and they have benefited greatly, too.

    One thing I learned at the wellness retreat (surprisingly) was how spiritual I am. Since finding how much this core value steers me, I am using this knowledge to help me make better life choices now. As I explore this path, I’m hoping to share some thoughts here. We’ll see how it goes!

    Thank you again for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with me. I appreciate YOU (and miss you, too).

    busyness … tends to dominate our lives whether retired or not – I’ve always found that optimism is connected to hope, and hope is connected to our sense of purpose. The trick seems to be in choosing to keep busy with meaning and purpose. Busy with just stuff … on cable TV or otherwise …. wears you out and leaves you flat.

    Well said, Brian! Oh the busyness of life… so true, so true.

    “Hope is connected to our sense of purpose.” I like that thought – I think I need to dwell on that a bit.

    Thank you for reading and commenting. I appreciate the time you took from your busy day to do so!
