Sunday Funnies – Hot Flashes Got You Going All Street Rat Crazy?

Posted on Sunday, January 15th, 2012

My Gram saved the Sunday Funny Papers for me and my daughter Nicole every week – many, many years ago. I think it gave us both an appreciation for the fine art of mixing humor with work. (It could also explain a lot… ) I’ll try to pass on my Gram’s gift here, sort of as a reminder to laugh every day. Thanks, Gram. Let’s see who’s got a chuckle for us today…

Relief for menopause symptoms doesn’t have to include some boring medical report.

This is a humorous ad that pokes fun at just what we go through to cool off. I especially love the “Stepford Wives” look.  Talk about all street rat crazy!  Enjoy!

Got any favorite hot flash relief stories? Got any favorite hot flash relief tips? I’d love it if you would comment and share!

Not quite in menopause but standing on the edge, I think. My favorite menopause moment is in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes when Jessica Tandy tells Kathy Bates to get walking and take B12. I remember taking my 80+ year old grandmother to that movie and her laughing her head off at that moment and the car ramming scene.
Not sure if B12 is a magic potion but when I went to the doctor last week, he really made a point to tell me to get vitamins with 100% RDA of B!

Oh, Sylvia, thanks for the movie memory! I forgot about that scene with the “walking and B12.” I do remember the car ramming episode – pure woman-over-50 power. tee hee! And thanks for sharing the tip about B12. It is believed that people over age 50 often suffer from B12 deficiency. It is a smart idea to take a good supplement and to eat plenty of B12 rich foods, which include salmon, tuna, and beef. You can find smaller amounts in dairy products. There are groups of people who have special needs for B12 supplements – vegans, vegetarians, older people, and those who suffer from gastro-intestinal illnesses or disease. I have found B12 in liquid form that may be beneficial. The claim is that it is more easily absorbed, which is a problem with B12.

Anyway, thanks again, Sylvia, for stopping by and commenting. I have officially entered the menopause stage of my life now so can tell you, if you are just starting the process (and it is a process) you are in for a heck of a ride! My advice? Take notes so you remember what the heck happened to the last 10 years when the time comes. And enjoy the craziness, for no other time in your life will you be able to get away with so much! 😀

Oh Patti! I loved this! Never heard the saying “street rat crazy” but love it and will now use it. I’m deep in
the midst of meno., and I thoroughly recomment HRT. I know there’s a lot of controversy about it, but I tried to go all natural, and I regularly exercise and eat fairly healthy. Forget it!! All natural was no relief from “street rat crazy”, so I gave in to HRT and will not give them up until I absolutely have to. HUGE difference! Now my “street rat crazy” is much calmer, more like “street mouse crazy”! I can deal with that! I’ve decided I’d rather die sooner but feel good than live forever being completely nuts and off the wall!
    Happy Hugs,
    Nina

    Hi Nina!

Glad you enjoyed the video. “Street rat crazy” is definitely a descriptive term! 😀

Yes, the whole HRT debate leads to one thing: It’s personal. And, women don’t just go into HRT without a serious discussion with their doctor. Most women I know have given it a great deal of thought before they decide to give HRT a try. Yes, there are risks. But there are also risks of drinking yourself into a coma, driving off a cliff, or taking out the entire neighborhood with a machine gun. The process of moving into menopause can be treacherous! Going mad is not an option. I went through it without HRT because I thought I could. It was hit and miss. And truthfully, the last decade is kind of a blur. I compare it to adolescence. Pretty much the same. So, I got through adolescence and I got through menopause. And here I am.

    What a world… what a world.

Thanks again, Nina, for stopping by and commenting. You know how we love the company in this here blogosphere! Take care!
