Sunday Funnies – Facebook Etiquette Explained Boomer Style

My Gram saved the Sunday Funny Papers for me and my daughter Nicole every week – many, many years ago. I think it gave us both an appreciation for the fine art of mixing humor with work. (It could also explain a lot… ) I’ll try to pass on my Gram’s gift here, sort of as a reminder to laugh every day. Thanks, Gram. Let’s see who’s got a chuckle for us today…
Now that Gram and Gramps have been on the computer machine using the “electric friendship generator” (aka Facebook), they might be surprised to learn that etiquette has not gone out of style.
Yes, in these modern times of electronic “mixers,” guys and gals still have to know how to behave. White gloves aside, there are certain good manners that apply to all ages. Let’s see what these swell kids are up to:
Now, that’s funny! It also has relevance for all ages. So, yeah, if your grandson just got his first underarm hairs or if your granddaughter just started her period, Facebook (or that electric friendship generator) is NOT the place to share the news. That computer machine doesn’t just exist on your kitchen table, it exists in the atmosphere. It’s out there, in space, for anyone to see and grab and use in any way they want. No matter how safe THEY say it is, it’s not.
So, Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle… go ahead and “Like” their pictures and say “Thinking of You” once in a while, but keep your stories to yourself. There will be plenty of time for that during the holidays!
