Sunday Funnies – That Explains It

Posted on Sunday, September 18th, 2011

My Gram saved the Sunday Funny Papers for me and my daughter Nicole every week – many, many years ago. I think it gave us both an appreciation for the fine art of mixing humor with work. (It could also explain a lot… ) I’ll try to pass on my Gram’s gift here, sort of as a reminder to laugh every day. Thanks, Gram. Let’s see who’s got a chuckle for us today…

Ever wonder how the stages of life happened?  This is one explanation of how bargaining may have backfired… sort of.  Hope you enjoy!

How The Stages Of Life Came To Be

On the first day, God created the Dog and said, “Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of 20 years.”

The dog said, “That’s a long time to be barking. How about I give you back 10 years?”

So God agreed.

On the second day, God created the Monkey and said, “Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I’ll give you a life span of 30 years.”

The monkey said, “That’s a pretty long time to be jumping around acting silly and performing. How about I give you back 10 years?”

And God agreed.

On the third day, God created the Cow and said, “You must go into the field all day long and suffer, have calves, and give milk to support the farmer’s family. For this, I will give you a life span of 60 years.”

The cow said, “That’s really a tough life. How about I give you back 40 years?”

And God agreed.

On the fourth day, God created Man and said, “Eat, sleep, play, and enjoy your life. For this, I will give you a life span of 20 years.”

But man said, “Only 20 years!? That hardly seems like enough time! Could we make a deal? Could you possibly give me the 40 years the cow gave back, the 10 years the monkey gave back, and the 10 years the dog gave back? That makes 80 years which would be pretty nice. Okay?”

“Okay,” said God, “But, remember, you asked for it.”

So, that explains why;

The first 20 years we eat, sleep, play, and enjoy ourselves.
The next 40 years we work and suffer to support our family.
The next 10 years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren.
And the last 10 years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Thanks again to my friends over at HumorEtc.com for allowing me to share this chuckle with you today.  Have a wonderful Sunday and try not to bark at anyone today.

Great story! I also like the way your grandmother saved the funny papers and gave them to you and your daughter. What a great way for her to develop positive relationships with the next generations.

Thank you, Sheryl, for stopping by and commenting. It is funny how even though my Gramma had a hard life, worked hard, she always had time to laugh. Maybe when things don’t come easy to us, we appreciate the irony of life, the humorous things, a bit more. Thanks again.
