Simply Awesome – Neil Pasricha Reminds Us Of Everyday Remarkableness

Attitude – Awareness – Authenticity
“Awesome!” This is not a word I use very often. I hear it used willy-nilly by younger people to describe anything from the latest app on their hand-held device du jour, to a severely stupid pratfall performed to entertain and disgust us. Anyway, when I hear the exclamation “Awesome!” I typically cringe and turn away. Call me an old fart… I deserve it.
But… I’ve had my eyes opened for me this morning by a young man named Neil Pasricha. You may have heard of him by now. He started writing this tiny little blog entitled 1000AwesomeThings back in 2008 as a way to reconnect with life and the goodness of life after several painful, no, devastating experiences. Like many tiny little blogs written from the heart, this one was read by Mom and Dad, then some friends and other family members, which was wonderful.
But, a funny thing happened. This blog was so inspirational, it started skyrocketing in the blogasphere, eventually winning the 2009 Webby Award for best Cultural-Personal Blog. This blog spoke to millions of people who experience the pain in life, but want to feel the joy, too.
Well, long story short… Neil Pasricha is inspiring us all, young and old, to find the good, the joyful, the awesomeness in our everyday life. His book The Book of Awesome explores the simple pleasures of life. There is no sappy sentimentalism here; just plain old everyday sweet moments. It’s refreshing to not have to dig so deep into our psyche to come up with the awesomeness, the remarkableness of life – especially when the psyche can be so wounded sometimes.
Anyway, enough of my prattle. I thought you would enjoy this little reminder courtesy of Neil Pasricha and Ted.com that life, even after devastating experiences, has moments to cherish and enjoy. So, enjoy!
p.s. If you were inspired to enjoy the little awesomeness in everyday life, click on the link here to order your copy of The Book of Awesome. I guarantee you won’t have to do a lot of soul searching to find the remarkableness in these simple pleasures. You may even be able to add a few awesome moments of your own!
p.p.s. I’ve already gotten some fantastic (awesome!) responses to this post. Comment here and tell me about one of your favorite remarkable moments – a simple joy you encountered in your day; your life.

I’ve been keenly aware (after this post) of simple yet remarkable joys in my routine travels today. I’ll share my observations here:
My Grandson gave me a hug.
My wonderful father-in-law lived well into his old age.
The Packers won.
I enjoyed the best play of the game (interception in end zone) with my family.
Target had a deal on some REALLY good wine.
My Granddaughter slept like a baby after a sleep-over party.
Puppies played.
My big cat curled up like a kitten under the Christmas tree.
Christmas tree still up.
Got my shelf finished for my office.
Got my printer/scanner set up on shelf.
A project I’ve been secretly working on for years may just become a reality.
It’s a fact that a really really good knife makes a difference in chopping fine things like celery tops.
Oatmeal and water makes a moisturizing facial scrub.
Oh, the seemingly little things can really add up when you actually write them down. Please share your little joys today.
p.s. I found a Shiraz-Cabernet that is great. Another joy.

The Packers won — and my family was with me to experience it! 🙂
Your grand-daughter has given me several hugs today.
Sweet puppy girl at my feet.
Your grand-son will be home from school soon – and will give me an update of his day. He keeps a piece of paper in his pocket all day so he can write notes to me. He doesn’t want to forget to tell me about something fun during the day.
Cold water tastes good.
Childhood friends have sent messages through Facebook to relate memories of my grandfather – which make me love him (and them) all the more.
An inspirational mother who loves me, always has, and always will.
Common sense even when life makes no sense.
Orange kool-aid in a Smurf glass.
The feeling of brushing your teeth after kool-aid and having them squeeky clean.
A nice hot shower on a cold day.
A husband who is patient and, for some reason, thinks I’m beautiful no matter whether my hair is done or I have a big zit on my face. He is constant as the sun.
And, yes, a nice Shiraz-Cabernet is wonderful, as well.
