Happy 4th of July!
Boy, is it hot! How hot is it? It’s so hot the flies are walking.
That said, how are you planning to celebrate Independence Day?
Three things are on my mind this 4th… patriotism, staying cool, and eating.
Patriotism – I wrote a guest post for my good friend Tracy Roberts at MomsInABlog.com about this subject, complete with a video of an “All American” song that I’m rather fond of. Be sure to check out Tracy’s blog and watch the video, then come back.
Staying Cool – Since I decided not to go to the beach today, I’m inside in the air conditioning, at least until dark. Although, it doesn’t cool off much then, either. That leads me to my next topic…
Eating – The idea of eating during this heat brings on a whole new dimension of preparing food. Cooking today will involve firing up the grill, but certainly not until the sun sets. Since our grilling spot faces southwest, this is the only way it can be done in this heat.
So, since the topic has turned to food and trying to cook in the summer heat, I thought today would be a good time to give you, my faithful readers, a gift.
My friend, Susanne Myers of HillbillyHousewife.com has written a nice little report called Staying Cool This Summer – Guide to Great Beverages and Snacks During The Hot Summer Months and she’s offering it to me and my readers absolutely free!
This report is filled with simple tips for beating the heat this summer by just knowing how, and what, to eat, along with recipe ideas for cool beverages and snacks.
Just click on the link below and download your free report.
Go ahead… click on! It’s fast and easy, and you can trust the source since it comes from people you know – me and Susanne!
I hope you enjoy this informative and fun report, and find tips to help you stay cool on this 4th of July, and all summer long!
Have a fun and safe 4th celebration. Whether your plans are big or small, enjoy your day!
p.s. I couldn’t leave without sharing one of my favorite memories of the 4th of July. How many of you grew up lighting off “sidewalk snakes?” They were my all time favorite. I don’t know if it was the aroma or the magic. I just know I enjoyed them. Here’s a virtual sidewalk snake to enjoy, at least as much as you can without the smell. Happy 4th!
And… thanks to my friend Tim Crass, for the lesson in history! You simply can NOT fail with School House Rock. Play, learn, sing, enjoy!

Hi Patti – the snakes were MY favorite too! Why is that!? Maybe because they were one thing I was allowed to light myself. My 2nd favorite firework were the little plastic parachute guys. We would go out in the boat the next day and gather them up off the lake’s surface, and play with them all day. Gotta love the 4th

Hi OSS!
I love the smell of them. Too funny, eh?
Yeah, ya gotta love the 4th. How many holidays are we actually encouraged to light things on fire?
Thanks for stopping by and commenting my Dear OSS!

I used to love those snakes, but haven’t seen them since forever.

You know…. I haven’t seen them around recently either. You’d think if anyone was setting them ablaze on sidewalks anywhere within a 10 mile radius, I’d smell ’em!
They’ve probably been banned. {{sigh}}
Thanks for visiting, Bodacious (aka Michele.) I sure appreciate you!

We are not allowed fireworks anymore…sure do miss that smell and the ooohhhssss and aahhhssss from the children and adults alike.

Oh, that’s too bad, Jacki. 🙁 Your town doesn’t have fireworks or you can’t have personal fireworks? I know they’re illegal in some parts, but I don’t think it’s enforced everywhere. Yeah, I enjoy the ooohhhsss and aaahhhsss almost as much as the fireworks themselves. Grown men and women are as silly as the kids. Great fun! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I sure appreciate the company here in the blogasphere! 😉
