Eating Quinoa – Add This Super Food To Your Healthy Diet
Posted on Saturday, March 5th, 2011
You don’t have to starve to lose weight over 50 – add this one super food, quinoa, to your diet.
I have found a new best food friend – quinoa. Have you heard about this “new” super food? If not, here’s the scoop:
- Quinoa is not a grain. It is actually the seed of a plant that is related to green leafy vegetables like beets, chard, and spinach.
- Quinoa is an amino acid rich food. This means it’s a complete protein, containing all of the nine essential amino acids.
- Quinoa is low calorie and low fat. With just around 30 calories per serving and virtually no fat, this is one food that you can’t ignore.
- Quinoa is packed with vitamins and minerals. Magnesium, Phosphorus, and Folate are the three nutrients that stand out in quinoa, but the list goes on and on and on.
- Quinoa is loaded with dietary fiber. We love our dietary fiber for many reasons, and quinoa is a power-house source, giving you about 20 percent per serving of the recommended daily value.
- Quinoa tastes great. All these nutritional benefits wouldn’t mean anything if it wasn’t tasty! Quinoa cooks up easily and quickly, similar to rice, and has a slightly nutty flavor. The texture is light and fluffy, but with a very fun little pop and crunch to it.
With all this goodness, quinoa has a list of health benefits that includes improving cardiovascular health, digestive health including gallbladder, blood pressure, and breast health. This is just the short list, so click on here to read all the benefits of adding quinoa to your diet, courtesy of the folks at The World’s Healthiest Foods.
I was buying organic quinoa in a local store for about $5.65 a box, which at 7 servings per box isn’t that expensive, but… I found a cheaper source for exactly the same quinoa product. I just ordered 24 boxes (12 regular quinoa and 12 Inca Red quinoa) and saved $38 on the total order (which shipped free). Click on the images below to order your supply. This is probably one of the yummiest ‘diet’ foods I’ve ever encountered! Enjoy!

Thanks, Angelina, for stopping by. Yes, I have gotten hooked on quinoa, too. I’ve tried the regular, the red, and the black. I have used quinoa in stuffed peppers and casseroles, as well as in cold salads. Very yummy, filling, and a great source of protein.
