Happy Birthday Paul McCartney – Our First Meeting
Posted on Friday, June 18th, 2010
Couldn’t resist this opportunity to take a trip down memory lane. Who else remembers sitting glued in front of the television the night The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show?
Happy Birthday Paul
Sit back, relax, and enjoy your ride on the way-back machine.
The Beatles – February 9, 1964 – The Ed Sullivan Show Performance
Along with memories of this music still resonating in my head from 1964 comes the sounds of my Dad sitting in his chair behind us girls who were plunked down on the floor in front of the television.
Grousing noises came from behind us that sounded like “mops on their heads” – “look like girls” – “yeah yeah yeah what the H is that supposed to mean” – “bangity bang boom boom boom.” My Dad was a man of few words, but when The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan that night, he was amazingly verbose.
Ah, memories… How ’bout you? What do you recall of that night?
p.s. If for some reason YouTube takes down this video, there are plenty more just like it. Just go to YouTube.com and search The Beatles or Paul McCartney.

I find myself grumbling similar things whenever your granddaughter’s friends fawn over their latest Disney boy crush (Justin Bieber, Jonas Bros, etc)… “stupid combaround hair” “can they even sing without autotune?” “why is that 12 year old little girl singing baby, baby, baby?”
In fact, that Beatles clip is very Disneyesque by today’s standards. For God’s sake, those nice young men are even wearing suits!

Ha! I’ve heard you… and have to agree.
Ah, well, parents will always be appalled by what crazy thing “kids nowadays” are doing. I’m sure my Gramma cringed when Mom started listening to Perry Como.
The first step is admitting we have a problem.
