Being Thankful – A Thanksgiving View From The Plus Side Of Fifty

Posted on Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

There’s a little poem that my friend Susanne Myers of HillbillyHousewife.com posted over on her newsletter that I wanted to share with you. It seems like the kind of thoughts a person might have who has, how shall we say, had a few years to be thankful for.

In my life it is very often the most difficult times that I look back on with gratitude. And it appears that the more years I get under my belt, the more often those hardships are finding me. But, with each new trial comes a new blessing. Let me know if you agree.

And, with that thought, I just want to say how thankful I am for you, my readers. Without you this wouldn’t be any fun at all! Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Be Thankful
~author unknown~

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire;
if you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something;
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times;
during those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations;
they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge;
they will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes;
they will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you are tired and weary;
it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things;
but a life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.

    I love the poem, Patti. We like to say around this house that the older we get the more we realize what we don’t know. Why was it at one point in my life … maybe late twenties, early thirties, I thought I had all the answers!? Life is such a growing experience, isn’t it? I’m glad you are a part of mine!

    Thanks, OSS!

    Yeah, me too. If I had any REAL power back when I was in my twenties and thirties there would be no hunger or war… yup, I solved those problems decades ago sitting around the kitchen table with other people the same age… we knew it all. 😉

    I’m glad you’re part of my life, too!

    Thanks for taking time to read and comment. I always appreciate it and love to hear your thoughts.

    Too bad we didn’t know each other back then Patti, knew it all, too! We could have changed the world!! Loved the poem. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

    Big hug,
    Celene

    Thanks Celene!

    Oh yeah… can you image a ‘kitchen table summit’ with all of us around it back then? We were all so dang SMART! 😉

    I’m glad you liked the poem. I don’t know that I would have ‘gotten it’ back in my 20s or 30s. Or, I guess maybe it would have made me sad. Now, it makes me smile. Glad it made you smile, too.

    Hugs back at ya! Thanks for stopping by!
