2009 – The Year of the Slug

Posted on Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Ten days into the New Year and I can’t seem to get myself on track.  So far my year has started out like a celebration of the Seven Deadly Sins; you know, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. Gluttony and Sloth seem to be my favorite right now.  Is it the Holiday eating binge gone mad?  I haven’t been able to take my own advice and made a decision to change my habits, and stick to it.

So, how much of a break should people give themselves when they find they are drifting rather quickly away from goals or resolutions?  Have you ever sat down after a long day of missed opportunities, forgotten dreams, or just plain over-indulgence, and thought “what the hell”?

Being a person (to use a term from around the 1930’s) “of a certain age”, you would think I’ve had enough life experience to know that we all go through ups and downs and that, eventually, we get righted around again.  But, being a person of a certain age, I also know that time is going by faster than it used to and a person really shouldn’t waste that time.  That’s why a resolution to accomplish something during this year should really be a resolution to do something TODAY instead.

I’d love to hear from you, Dear Reader, and find out how you manage to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again.  How do you get back on track?
