October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Posted on Tuesday, October 21st, 2008
I could quote a whole lot of statistics here, but I won’t, because if you or someone you love discovers a lump in their breast, all the numbers become impersonal somehow. Those numbers come down to one; you. If you have not had a mammogram in over a year, call your doctor to set up an appointment. If you have been postponing a mammogram because you do not have insurance or your insurance doesn’t cover mammograms, call your state or local health department, or go online to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), or the American Cancer Society, for information regarding free or low cost mammograms. You will also find that in the month of October, many hospitals are offering free mammograms to uninsured or underinsured women who meet age and income requirements.
Don’t put it off another day. Early detection is crucial to successful treatment. We want you to be around for a long, long time, enjoying life with all us “Remarkable Wrinklies”.
