Life Is Good… Why Mess With It

My older sister is a pragmatic philosopher, if that is possible. She is a deep thinker, but acts on those thoughts with the precision of a field commander. The title illustrates my point. A deeply felt sentiment, Life Is Good, followed by the directive, Why Mess With It. My sister is an inspiration to me.
For many years, my sister has walked with me through my life, both figuratively and literally speaking. Not only did she offer me her observations about life, but often it was done as we were walking five miles. Some years of my life weren’t so pretty, but she was and continues to be there for me with her dry humor and finely honed sense of justice, right, and mission. She is a remarkable woman and sister.
There was a time in my life when I didn’t want to get out of bed. Much to my sister’s credit, she gave me a challenge. I have now walked 3 marathons along with my older sister and my younger sister. It was the focus I needed, and my sister knew it. And now, when I don’t feel like exercising, biking, or walking, I think of my older sister getting out there every day, putting one foot in front of the other. I also don’t want her to get mad at me again.
So, 3 marathons under my belt, riding my bike 7 to 10 miles at least five times a day, and walking 5 to 7 miles every day in which I don’t ride my bike, is my world. It wasn’t just the words my sister said to me, it’s that she’s doing it. She’s out there every day, working, exercising, and keeping strong. Thank you Sister. Happy Birthday.
For a chuckle, here’s the poem I scratched out the day you told me to get off my butt, put down the beer, and get walking again.
There once was a gal told the Mister
“was a little tough love from her Sister”
she said “get off of your rear”
and “watch out for that beer”
now she’s walking the road
til she blisters!
