If I Should Die Before I Wake – Having The Last Word

The Last Email You Will Ever Send – I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Okay, I’m thinking… SNL spoof, right?  Waiting for the music and logo… and it doesn’t come.  I’m really, really puzzled now.  Really.  Seriously puzzled.  Can we have gotten this weird?

Yes.

Take a look at what this genius company has come up with.  Well, time will tell if they are geniuses, but stranger things have happened, and are happening right now.  Click play and join in the shock and awe:

Thank you to my friends over at MidLifeBloggers.com for alerting us to this possibility (and necessity!) to get in touch with all your cyber-friends to let them know you’re dead!

So, yeah, I guess I’ve got ‘lists’ set up for my exercise friends, my wine drinking friends (and yes, many are the same, go figure), my blogging friends, my frugal foodie friends, my internet marketing friends, my family friends, and even my friend friends outside of the internet.  I guess somewhere in there I should have a ‘list’ for my “guess I better tell you I’m dead” friends.

I know as we get older we start figuring out what we need to take care of before we leave this world for the next, right?  Along with the will, the life insurance, the house, the car, the jewelry, the keepsakes, the medical bills, the pictures, the cats, and the dogs, are the last words.  The goodbyes.  We only hope we have a chance to say our goodbyes to those closest to us.

And, now we have to think about those who only know us through the “internets.”  Actually, this isn’t THAT odd to think about.  There was a situation a while back, as a matter of fact, in which a blogger I followed quit blogging.  Disappeared.  I have no idea what happened to her, but she was an older lady…   see?  This could be something that gets more and more attention as the people who are, today, happily chatting away in cyberspace, start aging.

It will be just like what happened to my Mom and Gramma.  They started getting agitated each year when the new phone books would come.  Not sure exactly what could be so bad about looking at the new phone book, I asked Mom.  She told me all the old names were disappearing.  She hardly recognized the new phone book.  Each year it got worse and worse.

The familiar names were just… gone.

I hate to think that someday somebody looks for my name in the “phone book” and it’s just not there anymore… gone, without a word.

Maybe MyObitList.com is onto something after all.

p.s.  I am NOT an affiliate for MyObitList.com.  Just thought I’d share my thoughts.  Now, won’t you share yours?  Be sure to comment!  I can’t wait to hear your opinion.

p.p.s.  And speaking of cyberspace friends, while you’re here don’t forget to Like me and Friend me and Follow me and all that good stuff on Facebook and Twitter.  Oh, and sign up to get email alerts so you won’t miss a thing!  Oh, geez, if you do I’ll probably have to put you on MyObitList.  See?
