I understand fully, Lain! ;) I, too, have felt years of my life "wasted" while I was depressed over my weight and/or general health and fitness. I avoided (or feared) get-togethers that involved fewer clothes than a parka!

There was one moment when I had difficulty getting out of a boat (my legs were just too weak) that turned my life around. I thought "If I can't get out of a boat, does that mean pretty soon I won't be able to play with my grandkids like I want, sit on the floor and be able to get back up?" That mortified me enough to get exercising. And now? I'm strong and physically able to do anything I want. The weight? It's not ideal, but better.

Congrats to your Mom. Keep it up and I know she'll have physical freedom once again!

I should clarify... no one's life is "wasted," so I don't mean you have to be a normal weight to enjoy life or be happy. But I know the excess weight made her self-conscious, defensive, and unhappy. And I wish she could have had the physical freedom she has now when she was younger.

I meant to tell you - my mom, who has been overweight her whole adult life (sometimes as much as 75 lbs. overweight) lost over 50 lbs. in the last three to four years -- and she's over 70!

She did it by:
-Going to Curves several times a week
-Walking about 30-45 minutes almost every day
-Cutting carbs and all "white" refined carbs.

She was diagnosed with borderline diabetes and got the wake-up call, and immediately made these changes to address her health. I am just sorry she wasted so many years overweight. :(

But IT CAN BE DONE! She is an inspiration to me.
