Wishing is Not a Strategy

I wish I could lose ten pounds. I wish I could take a trip. I wish I could get more exercise. I wish I could save more money. I wish I could find a better job. I wish I could take more time to read.
Some of these statements probably sound familiar if you’ve been on this earth for more than a few years. Everyone has a few wishes, but most people know that wishing hard enough for something won’t make their wish come true.
There is one and only one way to make your wishes come true. You need a strategy. Wishing isn’t bad, in and of itself. Wishes are your heart’s desires. Wishes, Hopes, Dreams… they’re all very good things indeed! We want and need that good stuff in our lives or, well, why live. But, wishing is not a strategy.
What’s wrong with saying something like “I wish I could lose ten pounds.”? To begin with, “could” is the past tense of “can.” When you say “I wish I could lose ten pounds” you’ve already doomed yourself to your past mistakes.
And it doesn’t work if you say “I wish I can lose ten pounds.” Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it. Of course you CAN lose ten pounds; almost everyone is ABLE to lose ten pounds.
What if you said instead “I can lose ten pounds.”, eliminating the wish along with the past tense. Now, you can actually begin a strategy that doesn’t live in the past or rely on wishes.
Your wishes are important but, let’s face it, if you don’t develop a strategy your wishes will blow away with the Fairy Dust they rode in on! Without a strategy, you are only wishing you “could lose ten pounds” in some magical way.
With a strategy you are acting in a way that you “can lose ten pounds” with real results. Start living like you mean it! Design your strategy today and May All Your Wishes Come True.
